Input/output module ElMetro-IOM
Input/output module ElMetro-IOM is intended for measurement and signal conversion of different sensors of distributed data collection systems (direct current and voltage, resistance, resistance thermometers, thermal couples, pyrometers), for calculation of mediums flow as well as data collection and transmission to process control system via RS-485, CAN and Ethernet. Input/output module could be applied separately or be integrated into external control system.
Input/output module ElMetro-IOM series are components of distributed data collection and control systems. Modules not only could be connected with each other, but also with external control system. In combination with wide range of available configurations it enables to arrange high-efficient and low cost production process control systems, including distributed ones. Availability of open Modbus and CAN protocols enables to integrate IOM in existing (or planned) automatic technological process control system (ATPCS) at your enterprise, which would ensure quick and easy excess to measurement data, configuration and control operations.
IOM are installed in the field in close vicinity to the sensors. Consequently, ElMetro-IOM provides following advantages:
- Noninterference at long-distance analog lines;
- Enables to economize on communication lines (especially on temperature compensation cables);
- System becomes more structured, simpler and more accessible for maintenance.
Main functions:
- measurement (data collection from analog and discrete sensors);
- signaling and/or control system could be engineered (positional control is available);
- flow rate is calculated in accordance to GOST 8.586.(1-5)-2005;
- data is transmitted to the upper level of ATPCS, to the server PC or operator workstation;
- data is transmitted via current outputs (function of normalizing tranducer).
Configurations:
There are several configurations of IOM which differ from each other by combinations of analog and discrete inputs/outputs, support of power supply via Ethernet (PoE) and design for explosion safe and explosion hazardous areas. Available configurations of IOM are listed in clause 1.2 of manual instruction.
Mathematical channels:
As well as each analog input (AI and AIP) of modules could be mathematical, there are two additional mathematical channels to enhance capabilities of modules. Each channel carries out mathematical data processing, it enables to calculate and transmit physical quantity values which are functions of input analog and/or discrete signals.
Flow rate calculation and gas corrector functions:
Modules provide flow rate calculation in accordance to GOST 8.586.(1-5)-2005 and its reduction to normal conditions.
Interfaces:
Modules are equipped with external interfaces listed in Table 1 below. Supply package of each module includes OPC-server for integration with ATPCS.

Application examples:
Distributed data collection system - Input/output modules collect data from different sensors, convert it and transmit via interfaces to the upper level of ATPCS (controller of ATPCS, enterprise local network and automated operator workstation). If necessary, modules signal failures and/or transmit control signals to electric actuators.
Multichannel normalizing transducer - Input/output modules collect data from thermocouples and/or resistance thermometers and transmit them via current outputs to external data control and logging system.
Distributed data collection and logging system - Input/output modules collect data from different sensors, convert it and transmit via RS-485 interface to videographic recorder ElMetro-ViER. Recorder displays and archives all measured values. If necessary it transmits data to the upper level of ATPCS (controller of ATPCS, enterprise local network and automated operator workstation).
Electric isolation:
Under ambient temperature (23±5)°С and relative humidity 80% electric isolation undertakes 1500 V AC voltage (rms value) with frequency between 45 to 65 Hz within 1 minute:
- between power supply circuits and grounding terminal;
- between signal inputs/outputs, RS-485 bus and grounding terminal;
- between external RS-485 bus and power supply circuits;
- between relay/triac outputs and all other circuits of module as well as between each other.
Channel-to-channel isolation of signal (analog) inputs/outputs undertakes 500 V AC voltage (rms value) with frequency between 45 to 65 Hz within 1 minute.
